Standard Two: Know the content and how to teach it.

2.1 Content and teaching strategies of the teaching area

 

Proficient: Apply knowledge of the content and teaching strategies of the teaching area to develop engaging teaching activities.

 

Evidence: 

  • Using student feedback voice to guide and set lesson objectives via post it notes on the board

  • Use the Fisher and Frey model to clearly present a learning purpose at the start of each STEM lesson

 

2.2 Content selection and organisation

 

Proficient: Organise content into coherent, well-sequenced learning and teaching programs.

 

Evidence: 

  • Clear and concise yearly, term and weekly planners

  • Creating STEM teaching programs that are easy to follow in sequence as evidence in the Term Overview Planners

 

2.3 Curriculum, assessment and reporting

 

Proficient: Design and implement learning and teaching programs using knowledge of curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements.

 

Evidence: 

  • Planning using the Victorian Curriculum links 

  • Using both formative and summative assessment to assess student growth (plickers sample)
     

2.4 Understand and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to promote reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians

 

Proficient: Provide opportunities for students to develop an understanding of and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and languages.

 

Evidence: ​​

  • Asking students how they say certain STEM or Science words in their own language

  • Using diagrams, videos, Google translate and visual representations for those ESL students
     

2.5 Literacy and numeracy strategies

 

Proficient: Apply knowledge and understanding of effective teaching strategies to support students’ literacy and numeracy achievement.

 

Evidence: 

  • Providing students with new vocabulary through STEM curriculum content descriptors and lesson purposes

  • Using 'common words' in lesson planners and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language to expand student vocab


2.6 Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

 

Proficient: Use effective teaching strategies to integrate ICT into learning and teaching programs to make selected content relevant and meaningful.

 

Evidence: 

  • Use of Plickers and Seesaw platforms to gather pre and post-test STEM results

  • Use of STEM Blog and Student WIKI submissions which allowed students to read other classmate's responses and enhance student learning
